Tral
Tral is a town and a notified area
committee in Pulwama district, of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is a small town prettily situated on the
sloping plateau of the foot hills of the mountains near the east side of the
Wullar Purgana in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Tral is situated at
the edge of plateau divided into upper and lower mohallas. The houses that are
built on this range are mostly made up of bricks (some sun dried and some
baked). The roofs are usually made of tin while some are occasionally thatched.
Tral is shaded by fine trees and possess enormous number of springs located in
its 82 villages. Plateau lands on the east side of the town is bare and dry but
the slope to the west and to it’s beneath has a large mass of rice cultivation.
Among all the lakes Tarsar and Marsar are known worldwide for their
pristineness and sweetness. The most famous spring Dilnag lying on the east
side of the town whose beauty is further added by the magnificent Chinaar and
other trees. The cold water rises into a pool or tank about 50 sq

1662 metres (5452 ft). Tral is a township which is 10 km away from National Highway

History
Five hundred years ago
the real name of Tral was (تریہ
لال) Three Pearls because the
whole area was purchased by Hazrat Ameer Kabeer (RA) (who came from Baghdad to spread Islam in Kashmir) in three pearls.
Education
After independence like
rest of the country, scenario of tehsil Tral has also changed a lot. Number of
positive developments has taken place in all sectors especially Education,
Health and Employment sector. According to AINE-TRAL (a collection of
historical facts) in 1903 foundation of a primary school was laid by the
government. At that time 70 students were enrolled. During the year 1933 its
standard was raised from primary to lower middle school. Then in 1944 its
standard was again raised to higher secondary level. In present scenario there
are hundreds of educational institutions in tral, 7 higher secondary’s, Degree
colleges, ITI institutes and many more professional institutes. Literacy rate
at one time was 1% and now it has raised to 70% according to survey a conducted
by Ikhlas welfare society Tral in june 2009.
Personalities
Tral town has been
fertile in creating some eminent figures in Kashmir
valley including

Ali Mohammad Naik - former MP, MLA, Speaker of legislative Assembly). He has remained
General Secretary of Plebscite Front.
§
Mohammad Subhan Bhat (1977-1983) - was National Conference MLA .
§
Ghulam Nabi Naik (1987-1990) - Ex.
Divisional Commissioner and MLA . He is the father of Major General Mohammed
Amin Naik who became the first Kashmiri Muslim to raise to the rank of a
General in the Indian Armyin April 2008. Naiks belong to Dadsara village, once
a hotbed of insurgency.

Dr Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh - Registrar in Pediatrics SKIMS Medical College Bemina, a high
caliber researcher, writer besides being an outstanding pediatrician.

Molvi Noor-ud-Din Trali - a spiritual icon also surfaced from this beautiful township of Tral Kashmir Valley
§
Among noted teachers those who have left behind a legacy to follow
include Muhammad Ramzan Wani popularly known as Aajiz Trali. Born in a
small village Naibugh, he was a well versed scholar, orator, poet and an able
administrator. He was killed in custody by police in June 1998.
